Carhartt Meets...

HANDPICKED RECOMMENDATIONS

Back in the day, when the hippies still used to cross the Himalayas on bare feet to get to India,
reliable sources for true insider’s tips to far-away reaches and labyrinthine cityscapes could be
found in trusty travel guides like the world-famous Lonely Planet. But now, in the age of Google
and the iPhone, identifying similarly trustworthy signposts in the thicket of information offered on the
World Wide Web has become quite difficult. Well, reliable travel information has a new name.
With the biyearly short film series “Carhartt meets…” a new format is going be launched into the
Web like a shining beacon into night, to let you in on all the best kept secrets about the truly
undiscovered spots of Europe’s capitals.

The tips will come straight from the mouth of respectable party people. In each instalment a
Carhartt camera team is going to visit one of a select group of music artists in their hometowns
to find out more about them, their work, their visions, and their artistic ambitions. Along the way
we will also take a closer look at their natural habitats and hunting grounds – to give their fans
everything they need to stalk them properly and to provide an extra service for all those who don’t
really care about music.

The first instalment is going to feature the Berlin-based duo Modeselektor. The duo’s musical style
has always been all about the experimental, unselfconsciously moving between techno, dancehall,
dubstep, hip hop, and rave. In the course of a late night session in Berlin they spilled the beans
about their creative work, their indefinable style of producing music and DJ-ing, as well as about their
party, “Die Allianz”, which takes place once a year at the WMF Club Berlin. Unfortunately, we only
managed to broach their hometown during all of this, but still, the prototype of our new feature format
breathes a lot of vibrant Berlin air despite its general lack of location tips.

You can find the brand new “Carhartt meets…” clips on our similarly recent Carhartt WIP YouTube channel,
which, by the way, is also the incessantly updated prime source for daring clips from the scare-free
world of skating and riding. So, have a look at it, be amazed, and be educated. It’s definitely worthwhile
– and hey, knowledge is power after all!
